Job Description

Lead QA Engineer (Automation)

Here at Concerto, we build market leading CAFM software that enables larger businesses to manage their facilities, assets and property portfolios. With customers such as local authorities, fire services, universities and private sector clients, Concerto continues to be a long-standing trusted provider of software solutions since 2004.

As a small and growing technology team, we empower and trust our people to deliver on how best to please our customers. You will find support, mentorship, and the space to learn and become a better engineer.

We’re entering an exciting time from a technology perspective, with a planned refresh of our entire front-end and back-end stack, embracing the latest technologies and cloud hosting architectures. Get in touch if you’d like to apply and join us on this modernisation journey.

We’re looking for a hands-on Lead QA Engineer who can drive quality throughout the software we produce, through a variety of testing strategies, but with a focus on automated testing.

You should have strong experience in one or more automation testing frameworks (e.g. Playwright, Cypress), and have significant past contributions of ensuring quality in commercial web applications and APIs. A record of implementing an automation testing strategy from the ground up and guiding its adoption amongst a team of QAs is desirable.

We’re looking for someone with a strong understanding of what a good quality looks like and you’ll apply your expertise to ensure solutions produced by the development team are in line with customer expectations. We need someone who’s comfortable coaching and mentoring other QAs within the team, and be able to provide clear, respectful, constructive feedback to the development team.

How will you be the change?

We believe every role is essential to providing that peace of mind for our customers - whatever part of the business you’re in. Because every role plays a part in driving us further. And everyone can be the change. That’s how deliver value for our customers, and building systems that lead the way.

You’ll be working in a small, autonomous SaaS product team, collaborating with product owners, back-end and front-end developers to deliver software that satisfies both our users and our business goals. Aside from a backlog of new features, we have a wealth of existing features built on legacy technologies that require migration to our new tech stack.

Through a variety of testing approaches, you’ll ensure that newly built or migrated features behave as expected, ensuring a high-quality user experience along the way. You’ll produce an automation test suite to ensure repeatable quality is delivered by the development team, driving the adoption of tooling and practices within the QA team to support this.

You’ll be able to triage, repeat and identify software issues then describe them succinctly to a development team of different skill sets, while making judgment calls about whether the impact of any detected issues is tolerable in production.

What does it take?

If you’re ready to be the energy that helps us build our business, share our success, and really own it as a QA , you’ll need…

  • Testing Methodologies: Proficiency in various testing methodologies, including both manual and automated testing.
  • A history of implementing automation testing frameworks from the ground up (e.g. Playwright, Cypress, Newman).
  • Skilled in an appropriate programming language for writing automation tests, preferably JavaScript, Typescript, C# or Python.Able to craft comprehensive but appropriate test suites to ensure robust software quality, using test case management and defect tracking tools.
  • Experience in testing front-end web applications across a range of device types.
  • Experience in testing back-end APIs, database integrations and messaging systems, with exposure to container technologies like Docker/Kubernetes being desirable.
  • Experience in non-functional requirement testing, such as Accessibility, Security, Performance and Load testing using appropriate tooling.
  • Able to triage, repeat and identify software issues, making judgment on whether the impact is tolerable in production.
  • Outstanding communication skills, with the ability to articulate identified issues succinctly and accurately to a team with different skill sets.
  • Have a pragmatic approach to understanding quality vs delivery expectations and act accordingly to produce a high-quality product.
  • Ability to develop influence a QA team in the adoption of appropriate tools and practices.
  • Working knowledge of Git for source control and experience of working with Azure DevOps is desirable.
